Spring Break-Nerd Style

The much anticipated Spring Break is here and I'm loving it! No I didn't go to Panama City Beach, No I did not go home and no I did not blow tons of $$$ on a crazy trip...I'm sitting at home in my apartment reading a glorious book about medieval England while my cat watches all the birds outside my window. I'm in Heaven! I never got the whole "We have a week off from school, lets go NUTS!" mentality and I know a lot of people here at FSU who feel the same way. Because spring break typically falls after midterms, I think most students look at it as a period of pure relaxation. The weather is starting to warm up and you are free to do anything your heart desires without the guilt of a looming essay deadline.

Of course there are still those who wish to blow off steam at the Beach, but living in FL gives you a sense of freedom, in a way you are able to embrace other alternatives. Because we live near the beach, the mythology of a salt water filled spring break is kind of broken down for us and we are able to pursue other activities without worrying that we won't be able to go to the beach again until the summer. I honestly love this ability to choose how I spend my time without being pressured by societal spring break expectations. Just one of the many perks about attending school in the sunshine state :)

Winter Break shouldn't be so stressful!

So far this break hasn't been as relaxing as I had planned, turns out I have had a lot of work today regarding prospective graduate schools and GRE studying...eek! I have been running around trying to keep up with work, applications and deadlines. This weekend I felt so stressed I ended up just sitting in my room reading an EXCELLENT book about the relationship between Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots. I needed a refresher on just how much I truly love history. When all you do is calculate GPAs and study, it is easy to lose sight of why you wanted to pursue graduate school in the first place!

Anyway, today has been a great day, I realized that my hopes for admissions to FSU grad school were not completely dashed and that I can still make the second deadline. I'm not really sure why I didn't e-mail the head of graduate admissions a long time ago...but oh well thats just me, haha! In addition to graduate applications, I'm also applying to teach English abroad through the French Consulate. If I were able to get that job I think I would definitely put grad school on hold for another year. It would really be a once in a life time opportunity and I think now is the perfect time to do it. Also, it would give me the extra time I needed to master my french skills...thinking of how much fun I had studying in Paris this summer makes me want to go back although this time I am hoping to be in either Normandy or Brittany (I absolutely adore studying about the history there!).

Where did Everybody go?!

Wow This Semester has come to an END!!! Luckily Finals week was not bad at all, I turned in my Senior Seminar paper (after staying up till 4 in the morning perfecting it) and took my one and only final in French Existentialism.  It feels so great to not have to worry about grades or homework anymore, just work and relax...well for the most part, I do have to take the GRE again Wednesday morning, yuck! But I have been studying A LOT And trying to do a little bit each day, I really feel a whole lot more prepared this time around and hope I get the score I need to get into my top schools. Right now I'm really Leaning toward Louisiana State University, Oklahoma State University, James Madison, and of course FSU! I'm not really sure if I want to stay here though for my under grad, I'm kind of ready for a change...but at the same time, you can't beat in-state tuition!
