Vouloir, C'est Pouvoir

History & French - Senior

Love is in the air

Wow Valentines Day Fever has taken the FSU campus by storm! I usually don't really like to celebrate Valentines day regardless of whether or not I have a significant other but there is definitely something about this year that is different. Maybe it is because I'm a senior and my future relationships are uncertain, or maybe it is because I am older but I was all about Valentines Day! Not only me but just yesterday when I was driving over to my boyfriends house (he was making me Lobster Macaroni and Cheese...YUM) There were couples everywhere! I mean on the sidewalk, holding hands on their way to the gym, snuggling by Moes...it was unbelievable. I to was genuinely excited, I think people are just ready to be over this drab weather and were ready to celebrate something fresh and new...almost spring like! Either way, today I witnessed it again, it seemed that our seminoles wouldn't let class get in the way of l'amour, everyone one was in an exceptionally happy mood and it was nice to see so many shades of pink and red...maybe even magenta?

I DID IT!

I got some GREAT news a couple days ago, I was accepted into the FSU History Graduate Program!!! I was so happy I thought I was going to cry, FSU has the exact program I wanted to pursue, Napoleonic and French Revolutionary history. We actually have the second largest Napoleonic collection in the world...the first is of course in France but I think it is pretty amazing the second is right here in good old Tallahassee. I'm so happy I won't have to forsake my study of the French language during my masters. With this program I will be able to study and read primary sources (Such as a real Napoleonic diary...WOW) in French and continue improving my language skills. I ALSO hope to go back to France to complete some research...but that would have to wait until at least next year. I'm just so thrilled! It is also incredibly convenient that I will be continuing my studies at FSU, I wont have to look for a new apartment, move, etc. Although I was kind of ready for a new location, two years will be a breeze, especially considering that the next two years will be devoted to a subject I LOVE.

Football Season!

So even though I had tons of homework and plenty of studying this weekend...I made SURE to set aside time to watch our game against Oklahoma Saturday. I am well aware that we didn't win but I don't care! I still had fun munching on home made nachos with my friends and yelling at the TV. I'm really excited about this next game because I couldn't make it to the first one and the second was away but now I've got my ticket, I know where I'm tailgating and I'm ready to watch us put up a spirited fight.

Honestly before I even came to FSU I could have cared less about sports, let alone football but there must be something in the college air we breath because now I get just about as excited as any other football obsessed man, haha! Game days are just wonderful, campus plays the war chant on loud speakers every hour, people are all dressed up in their best Seminole garb and not one person has a frown on their face. I remember Freshman year wondering what all the fuss was about, people were going out and buying all sorts of garnet & gold gear, putting on face paint and I thought they were crazy! I swore I wasn't going to attend a game in the Florida heat and decided to walk over to Suwannee (one of our cafeterias) and grab some lunch but then...the war chant came on across campus, I don't know what it is about that song but it just gets you so pumped up...in that moment I was converted.
