State Authorization Process for Distance Learning Programs

Beginning fall 2016 and until further notice, we are unable to process applications to distance learning programs for residents from the following states: Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Rhode Island due to the lack of state authorization. State authorization involves the process of obtaining the necessary approvals before advertising, recruiting, or serving distance learning students from another state in that state. States have the authority to regulate institutions offering education within the state's boundaries, regardless of the modality (face-to-face or distance) being used.

The Florida Board of Governors' on behalf of all the universities in the State University System of Florida, is planning to join the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA). Once a member, FSU can become an institutional member and state authorization in the affected states will no longer be an issue.
