The essay and résumé are important parts of your application. They assist the University in learning about you as an individual, independent of your academic grade point average, test scores, and other objective data.

After you complete part I of your application, you will be taken to part II where you may submit your essay and résumé. To submit your essay and résumé online please follow these steps:

  • Log into the Online Application Portal
  • Click <Select> next to your submitted application
  • On the checklist, click the button to enter your essay and résumé.

For security purposes the online essay and résumé tools accept plain text only. We suggest that you compose your essay and résumé in a plain text editor such as Notepad, then copy and paste them into our tools. Any text formatting (e.g. bold, italics, indentations) will be lost. Please insert a double space between sections.

ESSAY

Your essay should be no longer than 500 words.

For almost one hundred years, the Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life.

RÉSUMÉ

Please provide a résumé of your high school years (no more than two pages or 1000 words). You may wish to include:

  1. Extracurricular, personal, and volunteer activities; community service work; and employment.
  2. Any special talents and awards that you have received.
  3. Any programs that you participated in to help prepare you for college (e.g. University Outreach, Talent Search, Upward Bound, etc.)
  4. Any family or work obligations that might have prevented you from participating in extracurricular activities.
