3 Ways to Apply

The college application process can be time-consuming, which is why Florida State makes it easy for students to apply by giving them options. In addition to our institutional application hosted here on our website, FSU also accepts applications from both the Common App and the Coalition application. These services save students time by only asking for their basic information once, and then sharing it with all the schools that the student wishes to apply to. It's important to remember that students should only submit one application for admission. If multiple applications are received, only the first one received will be reviewed. Florida State does not have preference to which application is submitted.

Florida State University's freshman application fee is $30. Both the Common App and the Coalition application carry an additional $5 processing fee. If a student qualifies for a CollegeBoard, ACT, or NACAC fee waiver, the entire amount, including the processing fee, is waived.

Please allow up to two business days to receive an email confirmation from Florida State University. That message will contain instructions about how to access the Application Status Check.

FSU requires the Profile, Family, Education (excluding Grades and Current / Most Recent Year Courses), Writing, Institution-Specific Questions, and Recommenders & FERPA sections of the Common App.

FSU requires the Personal, Contact, Demographic, Citizenship, and High School and College Information sections of the Coalition application. Additionally, while FSU does not require students to submit an essay, The Coalition does require students to provide an essay, as other Coalition schools may require one. If you do not wish to submit an essay to FSU, please enter "N/A" into the Coalition Essay prompt.

Log on to the Application Status Check regularly to monitor the status of your application materials.

Contact the academic department directly if you plan to major in dance, film (animation or production), music, studio art (BFA), or theatre.

Please note that letters of recommendation are not required and will not be used in the decision-making process.

Monitor Your Application Regularly

Our official method of communication is through email. Students should also regularly monitor their Application Status Check to confirm the status of your application, required materials, missing items, and your admission decision. Please ensure that we always have your most up-to-date email address, and include in your address book.
