  3. Transfer Next Steps

STEP 1: Activate Your FSUID

FSU Information Technology Services will send you an email with your unique FSUID and email address. Visit my.fsu.edu, click "Manage FSUID/ Password," and follow the steps to activate your FSUID. For detailed instructions, see our guide at fla.st/IOL94A3W.

NOTE: If you were previously admitted to the University, you were already assigned a unique FSUID. To gain access to myFSU Portal, please log in using the FSUID you were initially assigned.

STEP 2: Register for Your Orientation Session

We require all degree-seeking undergraduate students to attend a new student orientation session.

  • After activating your FSUID, your myFSU portal will prompt you to register for Orientation with the following message: Have you registered for New Student Orientation? To register or update your reservation CLICK HERE. Select the link on your myFSU portal to complete your orientation reservation.
  • During Orientation, you will become acquainted with University policies and procedures, participate in academic advising, and register for classes.
  • You should register for orientation as soon as possible after being admitted to FSU to ensure the widest selection of orientation dates are available. Your space will be saved when your payment is received.
  • You will receive an email 5-7 days before your scheduled orientation session with information to complete the Starting at State Online modules. Starting at State should take approximately two hours (or less) to complete. Within this timeframe, you will learn about academics, involvement, campus resources, safety and wellness, finances, and next steps for your New 'Nole Orientation.
  • To learn more about orientation and registration, visit the Orientation Registration page. (Distance learning students should review their New Student Checklist).

STEP 3: Submit Your Immunization Form

Before you can register for classes at orientation, you must complete our immunization form showing proof of two combined MMR vaccines and either showing proof of or completing a waiver for Hepatitis B and Meningococcal Meningitis vaccines. For information regarding our immunization requirement and to access the immunization form, visit studentinsurance.fsu.edu.

STEP 4: Submit Proof of Health Insurance

FSU requires all students to show proof of comparable health insurance coverage or to enroll in a university-sponsored health plan before registering for classes at orientation. Beginning Fall 2022, all eligible students will choose to either "OPT Out" of the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) with a comparable health insurance policy or purchase the SHIP.

For information on how to provide proof of health insurance coverage or information on FSU's health insurance plan, visit studentinsurance.fsu.edu.

STEP 5: Make Housing Arrangements

University Housing offers suite-style and apartment-style residence halls. Each residence hall has unique characteristics. Detailed information on each hall can be found at University Housing.

  • If you have been admitted for the summer or fall semester, we encourage you to visit the University Housing website for information about the housing contract.
  • If you have been admitted for the spring semester, you may submit a housing contract beginning in late October.
  • Keep in mind that housing on campus is not guaranteed, and is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. It is not unusual for housing on campus to fill up quickly. You can use FSU's Off-Campus Housing Marketplace to research housing options that are available off-campus.

STEP 6: Complete Your FAFSA

The Office of Financial Aid assists students with securing federal, state, and institutional financial aid. To apply for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

  • If you wish to accept Federal Direct Stafford loans as part of your financial aid award, make sure you complete the Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note. This must be completed for Florida State, even if you previously received loans at another school.
  • To view your financial aid information, you must first claim your permanent FSUID (see step 1), then you can log in through your myFSU Portal.
  • If you will be receiving Florida Bright Futures or any other state of Florida scholarship, ensure our school code (371) is listed on your state scholarship application. You can update this online or call the State of Florida Office of Student Financial Assistance at (888) 827-2004.

Important Notes:

  • Ensure that FSU (School Code 00148900) is listed on your FAFSA application.
  • Ensure that you have provided your accurate Social Security Number to the Office of Admissions.
  • The FAFSA application must be completed each year beginning on October 1.

STEP 7: Check Your Residency Status

We determine your residency status after receiving the residency declaration form that you submitted. Note that all students who wish to claim Florida residency for tuition purposes must complete the Residency Declaration form located under the Checklist section on your Admissions Portal before enrolling at the university. Please email residency@fsu.edu with any questions regarding your residency status.

STEP 8: Review Your Dining Options

Seminole Dining provides a variety of economical and flexible meal options. FSU also offers allergen-safe dining options. You can access detailed information at Seminole Dining.

STEP 9: Submit Your Final Transcript(s)

Review the final transcripts that are needed on your application checklist and submit those documents to the Office of Admissions as soon as your final grades and/or degree are posted.

STEP 10: Review Your Conditions of Admission

We outlined the conditions of admission in your acceptance letter, which is visible on the Admissions Portal. If you do not meet the conditions listed there, your admission may be rescinded. Please contact the Office of Admissions immediately if you think you may not meet the conditions of admission.
